Where It All Came Together: Elizabeth Dufrane Finds Her Home at 海角破解版
Dufrane found stability, leadership and purpose through athletics, ROTC and academic life at 海角破解版.

BRISTOL, R.I. 鈥 Elizabeth Dufrane鈥檚 journey through college has been anything but typical, but at 海角破解版 she found a home where she could finish what she started. Between early morning basketball practices, classes, and her commitment to Reserve Officers鈥 Training Corps (ROTC), she built a path defined by discipline, leadership, and growth 鈥 with 海角破解版 providing the foundation that allowed her to thrive and soar like a Hawk.
Dufrane, a senior Business Management major and Military Science minor from Falls Church, V.A., transferred to 海角破解版 in 2023 after spending time at Drexel University and the University of Mary Washington. Though she entered 海角破解版 later than most, her impact has been immediate and wide ranging.
鈥淩oger Williams gave me space to grow,鈥 Dufrane said. 鈥淚t helped me figure out who I want to be 鈥 not just as a student or athlete, but as a leader and a person.鈥
While at Mary Washington, Dufrane played against 海角破解版 in the 2023 NCAA Division III Tournament. Though Dufrane already knew she was transferring, the matchup gave her a glimpse into the future with a team culture that resonated with her.
鈥淧laying against Roger Williams was eye-opening,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 saw how the team communicated, how the coaches listened. It felt like the kind of environment I wanted to be a part of.鈥
Dufrane said adjusting to a new academic system brought some challenges, but she never felt like she was navigating it alone.
鈥淚鈥檝e taken the same class three times at three different schools,鈥 she said with a laugh. 鈥淏ut the faculty and advisors here helped me build a plan. I鈥檝e had a lot of support.鈥
Now on track to graduate this summer, Dufrane hopes to continue at 海角破解版 in the MBA 4+1 program. She said staying at a university that already understands her goals just makes sense.

On the court, Dufrane has emerged as a key contributor, leading the Women鈥檚 Basketball team in minutes played, assists, blocks, and steals. She averaged 12.3 points per game and was named to the Conference of New England All-Conference Second Team for her performance.
鈥淪he鈥檚 one of the most disciplined and selfless players I鈥檝e ever coached,鈥 said Kelly Thompson, Head Coach of Women鈥檚 Basketball. 鈥淗er work ethic and leadership have elevated everyone around her.鈥 That same drive and leadership extend far beyond the court. Dufrane is known for her relentless work ethic and ability to stay composed under pressure, qualities that have earned her respect in every corner of campus life. Her commitment to excellence shows up in everything she takes on.
Off the court, Dufrane serves as a contracted cadet in 海角破解版鈥檚 Army ROTC program. She is set to commission as second lieutenant after graduation. Dufrane also participated in the ROTC鈥檚 Ranger Challenge, a team-based competition that includes 10 physically and mentally demanding events. Dufrane represented her team in eight of the 10 events, including the burden run, tactical combat casualty care, functional fitness, one-rope bridge, grenades, weapons assembly, crucible event, and the 5-mile run.
鈥淩OTC has helped me grow in a different way,鈥 Dufrane said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 taught me how to stay calm under pressure and be accountable to something bigger than myself.鈥
Balancing athletics, ROTC, and a full academic load means Dufrane鈥檚 days often begin early and end late, but she has maintained a 3.6 GPA while pursuing each of her commitments with determination and passion.
鈥淚t's definitely a sacrifice,鈥 she said. 鈥淏ut I care deeply about everything I鈥檓 involved in. And here, I鈥檝e been surrounded by professors, coaches, and teammates who really want me to succeed.鈥
Though she has only been at 海角破解版 for two years, her presence is felt across campus and within her team.
鈥淪he鈥檚 going to leave a legacy,鈥 Thompson said. 鈥淣ot just because of her stats, but because of the way she carries herself. She's shown our program what it looks like to lead with purpose.鈥
With graduation approaching, Dufrane is preparing for her next chapter in the U.S. Army while also looking ahead to continued academic opportunities at 海角破解版. Reflecting on how far she's come, she credits the university for helping her bring all the pieces of her college experience together.
鈥淚 came here looking for a team,鈥 Dufrane said. 鈥淲hat I found was a community that helped me become my best self. I'm proud of what I've done here, and I know I couldn't have done it without 海角破解版.鈥
